"During my five years here I co-led two student organizations. The first one was Mothers in Academia and that turned into the Student Parent Alliance."

"My biggest challenge five years ago was basically finding a place to pump, and in the building where I worked there was no designated lactation space."

"I’m super appreciative of VPGE for taking the leadership and investing in students for us to come up with solutions and then really institutionalizing the needs, concerns, and resources into real practices, real policies, and committees and working groups that support these populations."

Stanford University supports the importance of health and bonding for parents nursing their infants. To promote a family-friendly work environment and to ensure access for students and postdoctoral scholars who wish to breastfeed, the university will provide reasonable accommodations to enable parents to express breastmilk. Additional lactation support resources are provided on the WorkLife website.

Do you know a Stanford community member - student, staff, or faculty member - who stands out for their passion and commitment to making a difference in graduate education and in graduate students’ experiences at Stanford? If so, please nominate them as a GradEd Champion.
