My research explores applications of machine learning (ML) to biomedical problems, specifically in the area of drug discovery. One of the primary challenges of drug discovery is identifying small molecules that effectively treat a given disease. Generative ML models can help by learning to design small molecules that are effective against a disease. However, these ML models often generate molecules that are challenging to synthesize, meaning they are rarely tested experimentally. I work on building generative ML models that design molecules that are not only effective but are also synthetically tractable, allowing our experimental collaborators to synthesize and validate our ML-designed molecules.
