Alanna Pyke

Alanna Pyke (she/her) is a PhD candidate in the Department of Genetics within the School of Medicine. Alanna is part of the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe and seeks to give back to her community through scientific research. She is passionate about community building and is excited to build connections with Indigenous communities through the RAISE program to conduct research that helps these communities. She hopes to promote Tribal data and research sovereignty and aims to support younger Native students interested in science through mentorship and outreach. During her undergraduate career, she organized a Native alumni conference, helped organize a conference for Native college students, revived the Yale Powwow and served on search committees for support staff for the Native student community. Alanna is enthusiastic about mentorship and served in several peer mentorship roles as an undergraduate and has continued to mentor as a graduate student. She taught in, and helped develop the curriculum for, the Stanford bioethics mini course, “Introduction to Genetics, Ethics, and Society”. Alanna holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology from Yale University. Outside of the lab, Alanna enjoys puzzles, craft projects, and exploring new restaurants and shops.
