Evelyn Fernández-Lizárraga is a PhD candidate in Linguistics. Her dissertation analyzes how college students who commute across the US-Mexico border to attend school vary in their linguistic practices across Spanish and English. Funded by a National Science Foundation DDRI grant, her sociolinguistic and ethnographic fieldwork spans multiple postsecondary institutions in order to study the role of higher education and regional identity in shaping language use. Evelyn received her BA from Dartmouth College in Linguistics and Comparative Literature and her MA in Hispanic Linguistics from the University of New Mexico. Additionally, she enjoys reading, dancing bachata, and driving down Highway 1.
