What are the dynamics behind a successful, viable, and engaging collaboration experience? How can emerging technologies support new modes of collaboration, impact social relationships, and shape our collective experience? What role does collaboration play in the long run on innovation at a societal level? Team science and collaboration is essential in today’s knowledge economy as the majority of work is accomplished by collective efforts, yet prior works are generally small-scale, static, and limited. A deeper and more thorough understanding of collaboration would profoundly change the way we think, communicate, work, manage, and innovate on a daily basis. My ongoing PhD work is an interdisciplinary research agenda that bridges computer science and social science, and draws on their approaches to extensively understand collaboration at scale from its micro dynamics to long-term impacts. I will also actively share my findings with industrial practitioners and managers to support positive collaboration experiences and novel interactions to achieve impact beyond academia.
