Javier Omar

Javier Omar (he/him) is a Ph.D. student in the Graduate School of Education in the Developmental and Psychological Sciences and Education Data Science programs. His area of scholarship is situated at the intersection of early childhood education, community psychology, developmental psychology, and community health. Specifically, he is interested in examining how immigrant youth's lived experiences contribute to sources of stress and strength and how these dynamic experiences influence social-emotional development during early childhood. Moreover, he is interested in how schools and educators can better leverage social-emotional learning programs and curricula to support linguistically and culturally diverse students. In addition to the RAISE fellowship, Javier’s work is supported by the Enhancing Diversity in Graduate Education Fellowship and the Stanford Graduate Fellowship in Science and Engineering. At Stanford, he serves as a graduate fellow for the Leland Scholars Program and a Spanish-English Interpreter for the Stanford-Pescadero Partnership. Prior to his graduate studies, he served as a secondary science teacher within the San Antonio Independent School District. He received his BS in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology and BA in Human Health from Emory University.
