Luísa Genes
Luísa Genes (she/her) is a PhD Candidate in Biology. She is Brazilian and grew up in Rio de Janeiro, where she received her undergraduate and master's degrees from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. Her research focuses on understanding how the loss of animal species affects the functioning of ecosystems, and how conservation strategies such as rewilding can help recover forest communities. She is particularly interested in animals that are considered “forest gardeners” because of their role in maintaining forests, such as tapirs and tortoises. Her PhD research is based on fieldwork in rainforests Brazil and in Costa Rica.
