
Marisol Zarate
Marisol Zarate (she/her) is from San Bernardino, California and is a Ph.D. candidate in the Sociology program. Her current research explores how formerly incarcerated individuals in Oakland engage in third-party policing. More broadly, Marisol is interested in research on policing, neighborhoods, and race and ethnicity. During her first few years at Stanford, Marisol worked as a Residential Academic Advisor mentoring first-generation, low-income students. Prior to beginning her Ph.D. program, Marisol worked as a paralegal with the Washington Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs where she worked on impact litigation cases for the police misconduct and education justice practice areas. She holds a master’s degree in Sociology from Stanford University and a bachelor’s degree in Urban Studies from Stanford University.
