Paula Gaither

Paula Gaither (she/her) is a PhD candidate in the Classics department specializing in Roman archaeology. Her work examines varied representations and meanings of blackness in Roman art. Additionally, she is earning a PhD minor in Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity. Paula received her Bachelor’s degree in Classics from Columbia University and her MPhil in Classical Archaeology from the University of Oxford, funded by the Euretta J Kellett Fellowship. Before beginning her PhD, she was the Curatorial Graduate Intern at the Getty Villa in Los Angeles. At Stanford, Paula has assisted Dr. Denise Lim in curating the exhibition Reimagining African Borders: Unearthing Stanford's Archaeology Collections with artifacts from the Stanford University Archaeological Collections. In addition to her academic and curatorial work, Paula is a member of SCIT (Stanford Classics in Theatre). Her research interests include Black feminist theory, critical race studies, performance theory, and critical curation practices.
